Got List? If Not Now, When?

Have you gotten sick of people telling you that it’s critical that you build your list?

Well, it is! So build it!

You see, that’s something pretty much all really successful internet marketers have in common, big lists with lots and lots of subscribers. Seriously though, they’ll tell you over and over that their list is what keeps the money coming in on a regular basis. And when money is coming in regularly, you sleep pretty soundly most nights. Besides, they know that no matter what Google does with their algorithm, email marketers will keep on making money.

So how did these folks get these big lists? Well, there are a lot of ways to build lists. Some people get very creative with what they offer people to subscribe to. And there are a zillion places online and ways to drive traffic to your squeeze pages. But the biggest part of the equation is, do people stay with you once they subscribe? In the case of most big marketers, the answer is yes. Of course, their lists suffer from attrition too, just like everyone’s. That’s only natural. But their unsubscribe rates are low and that makes it easier to add more new subscribers that unsubscribe.

One of the ways this is done is by getting your list members comfortable with you. Earning their trust is generally done through communication that is not restricted to marketing and sales pitches. That means sending emails to your list(s). Emails in which you talk to your list and let them get to know you. After a while, they get used to finding you in their inbox.

That’s what the big dog marketers do. They send to their list enough to get their subscribers accustomed to their messages. They try to make their messages interesting and varied so people will want to open their next email. And they do it often. Just look at your own inbox and tell me I’m wrong. See?

Yes, they contact their lists often. And you should too if you want to build your list. Because the Big Dogs, the Gurus, the Lifestyle Engineers have conditioned their subscribers to open their emails. Yes, they conditioned their subscribers to open their emails by emailing them. They got people to subscribe to their marketing list (or one of them at least) and they contacted that person frequently.

Now I’m not talking about sending three and four emails every day! That’s just obnoxious. It’s ok to do that for a few days if you’re involved in a product launch or something like that. But day after day, that’s just too much in my opinion. But I digress.

The point is, these successful marketers learned to communicate with their list(s). Remember, when someone subscribes to one of your lists, they expect to hear from you. So don’t be rude and ignore them. Talk to them, in writing, via email, through your autoresponder, or broadcast messages.

Sometimes you should just send an email to your list letting them know you’ve put up a new blog post or posted a new YouTube video. And from time to time you’ll let your people know you have a new product or service for sale. It might be your own or it might be an affiliate product or service.

A percentage of your subscribers will buy this wonderful product or service that you have chosen to associate yourself with. A few people will unsubscribe from your list. Hopefully, a greater number of people will become new subscribers, and you will continue to build your list. They will love hearing from you and they will learn to trust you. And when you once again tell them you have a new offer, a percentage of your subscribers will buy this wonderful product or service that you have chosen to associate yourself with, and so on. And all will be right with the world.

Til next time,
